End of August 2012
For what feels like all summer, we were counting down the days until our last "real vacation" before our little baby boy arrives. Call it a babymoon. Call it vacation. Whatever you call it, it could not have come at a better time! We had both been working so much lately (like until 9 p.m. for this Mama, which after 3 weeks of that in a row, I was ready to pack my bags!), and a nice little pause to relax, unplug, enjoy each other's company, read a good book and soak up some sun was just what we needed!
So, we headed out west to Palm Springs, California. Well, sun, and HOT is definitely what we got! With temperatures in the 100's all week, we spent most of our days reading and swimming at the pool (with a little sight seeing thrown in!). Which, was perfect. And yes, I was brave and sported a bikini with my baby belly. No, I did not take any pictures, nor would I post any :). However, I will say that swimming as a pregnant lady is amazing. It takes so much pressure off your back and hips, and is a great little workout! I wish I could go swimming every day!
For the first few days, we even got to escape the Palm Springs heat, by driving out to San Diego for a day/night. Anyone who knows me knows I love being near water, especially the ocean. And all things California. Therefore, I was in heaven. And, we were able to visit the beautiful Torrey Pines Golf course (once home to the US Open), so Phil was in heaven too. This week we also got a visit for a few days from Phil's best friend, Mr. Matt Carson himself (who now lives in nearby Phoenix, AZ and drove the 4 hours to come spend time with us - thanks Matt!). So, Phil and Matt got to spend some quality time together as well, hitting up the fancy golf courses Palm Springs had to offer. During morning golfing time, I of course hit up the pool and laughed out loud to my book of choice,
"The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy." A must read for any pregnant ladies out there!
Look who was also in Palm Springs! The last time I saw this statue of Marilyn, I was in Chicago. Good to see you again, lady!
On the road from Palm Springs to San Diego
Lots of wind farms in the desert!
Ah. San Diego. We have arrived.
Enjoying lunch on a rooftop deck, overlooking the cove.
Check out all of those snorkelers in the water!

I think the little mister loves the sound of the Pacific Ocean too. :)
Our little family of "3"-to-be!
Back in Palm Springs...
Trying to escape the heat...see the top of that mountain up there?
That's where we were headed!
Aerial Tram, here we go
Yes, a little scary knowing all that's pulling you
up the steep mountain were these cables,
but the views of Palm Springs were amazing!
Half way to the top!
Desert to the left
Palm Springs to the right
103 degrees down there, a nice breezy 75 degrees up here.
So this is where they keep all the cool air!
We definitely could have spent the entire trip up here - so peaceful!

One of our last nights in Palm Springs.
Had to cap off our "babymoon" with a trip to Roy's!
We first discovered Roy's (Hawaiian fusion cuisine) on our honeymoon in Maui. We had one of the best meals there, and still talk about it. So, of course, when we saw there was a Roy's in Palm Springs, it felt mean to be! I think we each got the exact same dinners we had on our honeymoon. They were just as amazing. The chocolate souffle for desert was just as we remembered too - delicious!
